What Does Kosher Really Mean?

The term Kosher, derived from Hebrew, meaning "fit" or "proper," refers to foods that meet the dietary requirements of Jewish Law. Meeting Kosher requirements is determined by both the source of the ingredients and the equipment used to produce the food. Kosher certification, the guarantee that the food meets Kosher requirements, revolves around these criteria.

A food that is certified Kosher bears a Kosher certification symbol. The Kosher symbol on a package or container is viewed as a mark of quality and purity, tantamount to the famous "Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval." Consumers look for a Kosher symbol as an assurance of quality ingredients and proper handling when buying food.

Rudi's Organic Bakery is certified by the Star-K Kosher Certification company, and our products bear the Star-K emblem.
