Company Overview

Rudi's Organic Bakery is the top-selling producer of certified-organic breads in the U.S., with distribution in all 50 states. Our company is a certified-organic bakery specializing in the production and distribution of organic bread products, which include artisan breads, sandwich breads, rolls, and spelt (an heirloom wheat-alternative grain) products.

History

The quest to fill a niche for great homemade-tasting breads began in 1976, when Founder Sheldon Romer opened the small, local Rudi's Bakery in Boulder, Colorado, and offered breads, cookies, cakes, and other baked goods. Rudi's soon became known for nutritious, flavorful, preservative-free breads, rolls and buns. Six months later, King Soopers, a local supermarket chain, began carrying Rudi's products in their Boulder location. In 1977, we moved the bakery into a larger facility.

In 1981, Rudi's underwent a rigorous review process to qualify our entire product line for kosher certification. Shortly thereafter, King Soopers expanded Rudi's offerings into its Denver area stores, and Rudi's products also began to appear in supermarkets in northern Colorado and military commissaries in Colorado Springs. To accommodate the increased demand, we constructed a 14,500-square-foot plant and upgraded our equipment in 1987. In 2000, Rudi's expanded to 33,000 square feet; and then expanded again five years later, to a 61,000 square feet facility.

Organic Commitment

In 1990, we began using all organic ingredients in our products. In 1998, we decided to participate in the national organic certification program, long before the official national organic standards were finalized in December 2000. And, in 2001, Rudi's Bakery changed its name to Rudi's Organic Bakery to better reflect the nature of our business and our strong commitment to organics.

Community Involvement

Rudi's Organic Bakery is committed to supporting a variety of charities, clubs and schools in Colorado and donates  bread to a local charity named Emergency Family Assistance. Rudi's is a member of the American Institute of Baking, the Organic Trade Association, and the Boulder Chamber of Commerce.

First opening its doors to Boulder, Colorado residents in 1976 as a tiny bakery shop, we are celebrating our 30th year in the business of making wholesome breads and baked goods.



History in the Making

Our state-of-the-art bakery, built in 2005, can produce up to 50,000 loaves of fresh baked, certified organic bread every day.
